The Holy Theophany, also known as Epiphany, is a religious celebration which is one of the most sacred Feast Days on the Greek Orthodox Calendar. The ceremony celebrates the revelation of God’s voice during Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan River saying “You are my Son, the Beloved- with you I am pleased”. Today, a priest will throw a crucifix which he has blessed at the start of the ceremony into the sea or lake and whoever wishes to jump in, catch it and return it to the priest will be blessed for the year ahead.
